Sabina’s Pro Bono Work

PROJECT AIMS

With the support of Barristers and colleagues in the UK legal profession, the aim of the project is to deliver Pro Bono advocacy and related skills training to women Barristers and peers of South Asia to promote a fairer representation of women practising at the Bar and working in the legal profession generally.

The core aims of The WIGs Project is to encourage more women in South Asia to practice at the Bar and work within the legal profession generally. With an increase in women working in the legal field, it is envisaged that women and children will be better represented in the local court system with improved access to justice. The WIGs Project training programme ensures that participants receive training of the highest calibre in advocacy and related legal skills including conference and negotiation skills. The training programme aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to better understand gender-sensitive issues and promote fairer legal representation of women and children from less privileged backgrounds.

The WIGs Project training programme is delivered in accordance with the Hampel Method, the method used in the UK by all four Inns to train newly qualified Barristers and Bar School students. The Hampel Method is proven to be highly successful as a training model and has been used in the UK for a number of years. By using the Hampel Method training model, the aim of The WIGs Project is to provide female law students, advocates and Barristers of South Asia; UK based advocacy and related skills training to encourage more women to represent women and children from less privileged backgrounds; and to do so at a very high standard.
